Modigliani Cubic Head Sculpture

Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920) is renowned for his distinctive elongated forms, reflecting his deep background in sculpting. Born in Livorno and trained in Florence and Venice, he settled in Paris’s Montmartre in 1906, where his unique style gained immediate recognition within the avant-garde community. His early experience working with Carrara marble and his fascination with African and Oceanic sculpture significantly shaped his artistic language. These influences are evident in his stone-carved heads from 1911–1912, which showcase a synthesis of traditional sculptural aesthetics and modernist innovation.
